Minor League
We went to the Oklahoma City Redhawks game a few weeks ago. Mike told me to grab Alex's glove. That turned out to be good and bad. He looked so cute waiting for a foul ball to catch. He waited, walked to a better spot, he waited. It was hard to take his disappointment at not getting to catch a ball. I even had one of the attendants tell him it is rare to catch a foul. The upside was the special that day - kids under 12 got to run the bases after the game. Mike got some good pictures. The Redhawks lost but the Szymanski family is ready got to another game.

The Land Run!
Okay, I'm jumping forward a few months.
April 22, 2011 - Kate's fourth grade class reenacted the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889. (From Wikipedia, A Land Run is an historical event in which previously-restricted land of the United States was opened for homesteading on a first arrival basis.) The 1889 Land Run took place on April 22 at high-noon. When the whistle was blown (safer version of starter pistol), the kids, grouped into families, ran to stake out their land.
My favorite part, when she hopped in the wagon and had her "husband" pull her back to the school building. (BTW, "husband" is the same boy who gave her a necklace for Valentine's Day.)

Each member had to provide supplies, rope, stakes, blanket. Kate was the mother of her family so we provided the covered wagon. After "her son" returned with the deed, the family settled in for lunch under the hot Oklahoma sun.

Too Fabulous for 40!
That is my official position on turning 40. Actually, it's a cute t-shirt my friend Misty had made for me. After dinner out with my husband, kids, and parents on the BIG day. My mom and headed to Chicago. We had a fantastic time despite the freezing temperatures. We saw the musical Wicked on stage, went to great museums, and had wonderful food. Here are on the 95th Floor of the John Hancock.
I'm Back!
I'm blogging again. It's been awhile. Okay, it's been over a YEAR! But things are happening at Szymanski Central.
